Okay so the shift to chat interfaces is driven much more by developer needs than consumer needs. That doesn’t mean there aren’t use cases that turn out to be great for consumers. So what types of chat interfaces are actually good for the user? Asked another way: Should your service live in chat? Artificial Intelligence (AI) promises everything from self-driving cars to self-writing newspapers, but AI may be missing its greatest opportunity in healthcare, where AI-driven “conversational interfaces” hold untapped potential to influence the health and wellbeing of billions of people.
Amazon, Google, IBM and Microsoft are using high salaries and games pitting humans against computers to try to claim the standard on which all companies will build their A.I. technology.
“Whoever wins this race will dominate the next stage of the information age,” said Pedro Domingos, a machine learning specialist and the author of “The Master Algorithm,” a 2015 book that contends that A.I. and big-data technology will remake the world.
